Oliver Kniest

Born: 26 Sep 1966 in Germany
living in Cologne, GER since 2000

I never felt a really close connection to photography all my life. So this can be called a late found passion. Gratefully "still and forever" close internet-friend Monika, finally talked me into buying a camera and giving it a try. I bought my first camera in 2006. The composition of my pictures is strongly influenced by my favorite childhood literature: comics! A love for strong colors and harsh contrasts defines the style of all my pictures. The pictures I take don't ask for a deaper meaning... they just want to please. At least that's what I am trying to accomplish...

it's been a while and finally last weekend I uploaded some of my latest shots as well, as I kicked out some older pictures, as I only want to present most perfect pictures - which means a combination of technical quality, idea, etc.

Please be aware that first I show all the horizontal pictures (backwards chronologically) and then the vertical pictures

    Take a look and enjoy

    UNICEF

    Freitag, 28.05.2010 10:44:15h

The earthquake that devastated Haiti on 12 January killed over 220,000 people and injured more than 300,000. Three million people, or 30 per cent of the country's population, have been affected including some 1.5 million children. Around 1.3 million people are still in emergency shelters in the Port-au-Prince area and over 600,000 have left their homes in the city for rural areas, including 300,000 children. UNICEF’s response UNICEF has been delivering life-saving assistance to Haitian children in the areas of water, sanitation, hygiene, nutrition and health. As part of its commitments, UNICEF has been providing children with a sense of safety and normality through designated spaces and materials for education, recreation and early childhood development. UNICEF has also been working towards building and strengthening systems to protect women and children from violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect. The action taken over the past three months has averted a post-earthquake crisis. There have been no outbreaks of diseases or epidemics so far. Much however, remains to be done. With the upcoming rainy and hurricane seasons, the relocation of displaced people to safer shelters, along with the provision of basic services and the protection of children and women, remains a priority.

UNICEF, with its partners, will continue to support the relief operations and assist in the reconstruction and recovery phase. It is important that children’s voices are heard, their rights are upheld, and their needs are addressed.

Please show your support by buying one or more of these articles or donate directly to help children affected by the Haiti earthquake.

    new additional equipment

    Freitag, 21.05.2010 11:51:56h

after I bought my new cam end of last year (see blog: "about an offer I couldn't resist") now I added some equipment again to have way more options banning my ideas on pictures.
Now I finally have again a more extreme wide angle lens (16-35mm) and a highspeed flashlight.
Unfortunately my timing with shoots and the weather wasn't very lucky so far, so I am still waiting to put the new equipment into action...
But I hope soon I will get the chance
